and a very warm welcome to the WIAS web site

Docklands

Docklands has changed almost beyond recognition in recent years, particularly on the Canary Wharf side of the Thames, the home of the major financial institutions, where modern architecture is in abundance. On the other side of the river at Rotherhithe there is still much to interest the IA enthusiast. In particular the Hilton Docklands Hotel now occupies the site of Nelson Dock, the only dry dock left in London. In dock alongside the hotel is the Dame de Serk, a replica of an 18th century 3 masted French sailing barque which was actually made in 1952. Until recently it housed the hotel restaurant but is now only used for functions. If you find yourself in the area there is a ferry service crossing directly to the Nelson Dock / Hilton Hotel site and it's not too far from there to the excellent Brunel Museum.
